Robyn Rey Rudisill For GMSD Position 4

About the Candidate

Who is Robyn Rey Rudisill?

I am married to Bob Rudisill. We have four children. Allie, age 16, attends Houston High School. Henry, age 13, attends Houston Middle School. Hannah and Sophie, age 11, just graduated from Dogwood Elementary and are heading to Houston Middle in the fall.

I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, and a Masters of Education with an emphasis in reading. I obtained my Gifted Education Certification from William Carey College and obtained my Administrative License from Bethel University.

For the past twenty years, I have had the privilege to teach 1st , 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 8th grades at both public and private schools. At Crichton College, I taught, trained, and evaluated future teachers and was the Director of Field Experiences. I also had the privilege to work for two major textbook publishers selling and training K-8 curriculum, college textbooks, and technology.

As a Germantown resident, I have had the opportunity to serve on city commissions and in area civic clubs. I have served as Chairman of the Education Commission, and I was the Secretary of the Germantown Arts Alliance. I am a past treasurer of Duntreath Neighborhood, a member of Leadership Germantown Class of 2017, and I have been the volunteer coordinator for the past 3 years for the GMSD 5K/Color Run. I am currently on the Executive Board of the Germantown Charity Horse Show serving as a Director At-Large. I am also a member of Hope Presbyterian Church.

Why do I want to run for GMSD School Board?

I am running for school board because my passion is education, and I am committed to providing all children in Germantown with an equal opportunity to be the best that they can be. It has been my mission for the past 20 years to inspire and be a role model for all of the students I have taught. For years, I have encouraged my own children and my former students to be strong, brave, and courageous and to step out of their comfort zones to better themselves. As a school board member, I want them to see that I practice what I preach and that I myself can grow, learn, and be the change that I have tried to instill in them. I am also running for school board because I am a servant leader that wishes to serve the community in which I live.

My goals for the next four years as a school board member will be to work towards the following:

I will support fair and equal capital improvements for new and existing schools.

I will continue to help strengthen a safe school climate and environment for all students.

I will foster better communication between parents and school personnel.

I will work to increase options for early post secondary opportunities for students, but I will also encourage the implementation of trade skill classes for students who are not college bound. Additionally, I will further promote programs or community relationships for Special Education Students to have more job-related training opportunities.

I will promise to be a guardian of tax dollars, and I will build relationships with people at the city, county, and state levels to find more funding sources for our schools. I will also remain positive and advocate for our district to increase instructional time and reduce testing time.

In closing, as stated in the Tennessee School Board Candidate Guide, “No greater honor can be bestowed upon a citizen than membership on the local School Board. The office calls for the highest character and a dedicated interest in the welfare of all children, youth and adults in the community. The best, most capable and most farsighted citizens of each community should be drafted to serve on the School Board. To be a School Board member is to serve the future of your community, state, nation and world.”

It would be my honor to serve this community as the next Germantown Municipal School District Position 4 School Board member.
